Special Projects & Activities

A description of special projects, studies and initiatives undertaken by the APAO.

Innovation Forum: New Markets for Biogas

The Biogas Association hosted an Innovation Forum to explore new markets for biogas on March 7th, 2012 in London Ontario. With an engaging audience represented by government, academia and industry, the group came together to consider opportunities and barriers related to using biogas for new applications. Funded under the Growing Forward initiative, a federal-provincial-territorial initiative, the discussion focused on biogas as: a renewable natural gas source to inject into the grid, vehicle fuel source, and a fuel substitute for propane heating. This event fostered excellent discussion and initial understanding of how we can work together to move the biogas market ahead in Ontario and support the government’s green industry and green energy initiative. A report on the Innovation Forum outcomes will be published in English and French in the coming months. Copies of the presentation materials can be accessed here.

GTM 2012

The association was actively engaged in this year’s Growing the Margins and Canadian Farm and Food Biogas Conferences and Exhibition. The Biogas Association (as the APAO) was at the forefront during the welcoming plenary; chairing technical sessions; presenting on industry perspectives, biogas growth potential and the FIT review; as well as tending a booth in the exhibition, which displayed our biogas video, sample newsletter and biogas fact sheets. A resounding applause to the GTM team, with incredible support from volunteers in the sector, who collectively delivered yet another great event.

Biomethane: Farm to Fuel Project

A developer’s guide is being prepared to help farmers evaluate biomethane opportunities. With funding provided by the Agricultural Adaptation Council of Canada and support from other groups and members, this guide will compile research to open up complementary and efficient uses of biogas. The guide will be posted in summer 2012.
